SilverHawks: Bounty Hunters of Limbo

A beat-em-up in the Golden Axe and Final Fight mould, built for this site on a custom 2.5D canvas engine. Fifteen missions, four playable SilverHawks, and squadmates flown by the computer for the slots you do not take. It runs in the browser and it is free.

Fan-made, and unofficial

This is a fan project made for silverhawks.tv. It is not a product, it is not for sale, and it has nothing to do with the rights holder. SilverHawks is the property of Warner Bros. Discovery, and this is built for personal use in the same spirit as the rest of the archive.

Early pilot

This is a pilot build, put up to be played and picked apart rather than because it is finished. Expect rough edges, placeholder art and balance that has not settled. Progress saves in your own browser, so clearing your site data clears your campaign.

Controls

Arrows, or W A S D Move. Up and down change depth, which is the whole skill of the genre.
J or Z Attack. Chains jab into cross into hook.
K, X or Space Jump. Attacking in the air is a jump kick.
L or C Tally-Hawk special.
Double-tap left or right Run. Attacking while running is a dash attack.
Walk into an enemy Grab. Attack for knees, or press away and attack to throw.
P, and M Pause, and mute.

The squad

Up to four SilverHawks fight together. The stats scale a shared move table rather than giving each character a separate one, so they feel related rather than like four different games.

  • QuicksilverBalanced. The default, and the one to learn the timing on.
  • SteelheartTough. Absorbs a crowd better than the others.
  • SteelwillHeavy and slow. Hits hardest, commits longest.
  • Copper KiddFast and fragile. Rewards not getting hit.

The campaign

Fifteen missions across eight modes: crowd fights, rescues, escorts, boss duels, survival holds, a highway chase, side-scrolling flight and trench runs. Clearing a mission unlocks the next one and gives a life back. Bosses run from Buzz-Saw on the Brim*Star moon through Mumbo Jumbo, Hardware, Mo-Lec-U-Lar and Melodia to Mon*Star himself.

Credits and art

  • Built in TypeScript on a custom 2.5D canvas engine written for this project.
  • Character sprites and backgrounds were generated with an image model and then post-processed, in the same way the anniversary banner on the front page was, and they carry the same label.
  • Series screengrabs were used as visual reference during development and are not redistributed as game art.
  • SilverHawks, its characters and its designs are the property of Warner Bros. Discovery. No claim is made to any of it.
